Women's Basketball vs. UST 2/6/12 Galler
FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women’s basketball team (17-5, 12-4 RRAC) got passed a feisty University of St. Thomas team (6-16, 4-13 RRAC) in a low scoring 55-44 win.
The Lady Rams started the game overpowering the Lady Celts, jumping out to a 12-4 lead early in the first half capped by a
Kristi Alexander jumper. The Lady Rams kept the lead midway through the first half and made it a nine point, 18-9 lead with a jumper in the lane by Raven Smith.
Then, like a patient sniper waiting for the perfect shot, St. Thomas led a slow, but effective comeback. By taking time on the offensive end, making shots count, and nabbing quality bucket here and there, the Lady Celts tied the game at 26-26 with two minutes left in the first half. St. Thomas then took a 28-26 lead at the buzzer with a Hersh Boone-Rodgers floater.
It seemed as though the Lady Celts lulled the Lady Rams to sleep to take the lead as the groggy Rams shot 38 percent from the field to the Lady Celts 50 percent.
The game continued neck and neck as neither team could break out. The Lady Rams found some cushion with a 10-1 run that took over four minutes off the clock. Wesleyan held a 50-41 lead with under a minute to go and rode out the clock to finish off the Celts 55-44.
The Lady Celts only shot 20 percent from the field, and went 0-6 from behind the arc which led to the late Wesleyan run. Wesleyan also out-rebounded their opponent 46-30.
Brittany White led the Lady Rams with 15 points, six boards, and five assists.
Nicole Terral added 12 points and
Kayla McCray tallied 10 points in the win.
The Lady Rams will play SAGU in Waxahachie on Thursday, February 9 starting 5:30 p.m.
