FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University men’s soccer team (2-3-1, 1-0 RRAC) picked up the conference opener with a 2-0 against Bacone College on Thursday.
The Rams and Warriors were fired up at the start of the game, as both teams played in a controlled chaos sort of state. The two teams played intensely hard, but kept the fouls to a bare minimum.
The Rams kept possession for most of the first half, as Wesleyan was not bothered by the rag-tag, rough and tumble game play of Bacone. The Rams made Bacone goalie Hank Hill work, but he was up to the challenge in the first half with seven saves, keeping his back line fairly organized.
The Rams finally broke the will of the Warriors early in the second half. The Rams pushed the ball and from a set piece, Ivan Kovacevic found Clay Lawson who put a header in to make it 1-0.
A minute later, the Rams came right back and scored again, as Kovacevic again placed a beautiful ball that TJ Romaguera headed in to take a 2-0 lead on Bacone.
The Warriors found themselves with a one versus one situation, but Dejan Milosevic made a simply brilliant save to keep the shutout intact.
The Warriors did not test the Rams for the rest of the match, and Wesleyan took a 2-0 conference opening win.
The Rams took 27 shots, 10 on goal, committed 15 fouls, and took seven corners. The Warriors took nine shots, committed 15 fouls, and took one corner.
The Rams will take on Texas College on Saturday, September 22 starting at 5:30pm.
