FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women’s soccer team (4-3-1, 1-0 RRAC) took a commanding 5-0 conference opening win from Bacone College (1-6, 0-1 RRAC) Thursday night at Martin Field.
The Lady Rams took an early lead on the Lady Warriors in the third minute as it seemed like Zamora Bell, who subbed in for an early injury, was in the ball game for less than a minute before she bested the keeper on a fantastic pass from Kaeley Albus to take a 1-0 lead.
Possession was about even midway through the first half of play. As the half wore on the Lady Rams flexed their muscles, making a few great runs but could not get it in goal.
The Wesleyan attack paid off near the end of the half to make it 2-0. Sabina Obidinski found Brianna Wilson’s head on a bang-bang play.
The Rams held the score at 2-0 heading into half time.
The Rams came out and dominated the second half, with Obidinski giving the Lady Rams a 3-0 lead on a header from Bell.
Late in the game Texas Wesleyan found the net again with aggressive play as Obidinski put her second goal on net beating the keeper off of a rebound to make it a 4-0 game.
Late in the contest Leah Valtman gave the Lady Rams a 5-0 cushion on a header in the upper right corner of the net to solidify the win for the Rams.
“Great win tonight,” commented Head Coach Josh Gibbs. “I feel like that was the first time we played up to our potential. It was a huge effort for everyone. I’m very proud of the work rate, team work, and passion we played with tonight. Great team win, and great to see us play like I know we are capable.”
The Lady Rams will take on Texas College on Saturday, September 22nd. Game time is set for a 7:30 pm start at Martin Field.
