PLAINVIEW, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University men’s soccer team (1-1) took a frustrating 2-0 loss to Wayland Baptist University (3-0) on Saturday afternoon.
The Rams and Pioneers played tight, each taking chances on runs to try and take the advantage.
The Pioneers scored as a result of two controversial foul calls. The first was on a free kick outside the box, and the second was due to a converted penalty kick.
The Rams had plenty of chances, but just could not come up with a score. Wesleyan had 2 one versus one opportunities, hit the crossbar on two occasions and hit the post on a shot, but failed to net any points.
TJ Romaguera and Ivan Kovacevic had a pair of shots on goal. Dejan Milosevic had three saves in the loss.
“We played well,” commented head coach Tyler Powell, “but when we don’t finish our chances the outcome isn’t favorable. If we finish on any of the chances we had, it’s a different game. We have to regroup and get ready for another tough one tomorrow.”
The Rams continue their road trip with a match against Lubbock Christian University tomorrow in Lubbock starting at 4:00 p.m.
