 FORT WORTH, Texas--Mo Weathers led in scoring for the Rams (12-5, 7-4) with 18 points, as the Texas Wesleyan men’s basketball team dropped Wiley College (10-6, 5-4) for an 80-73 victory on Saturday. Weathers also picked up 6 assists and 5 rebounds in the win.
 
The Wildcats led in the opening minutes of the game, but Isaiah Jay forced a steal from Anthony Jackson and went in for an easy layup to tie the game at 7-7 with 16:00 to play in the first half. Jay had 8 points and 3 rebounds in the game.
 
The Rams extended the lead to 14 points off of a three-point shot by Oscar Griffin to put the score at 27-13 at the 11:28 mark. The senior posted 13 points, 4 rebounds, and 1 assist
 
Texas Wesleyan eventually went into halftime with a 19-point advantage over the Wildcats, at 48-29.
 
The Rams held their largest lead up by 22 points at 57-35 with 16:04 to play in the second period. The Wildcats began to chip away at the deficit by going on a 13-0 run to pull within single-digits at 57-48 with 11:24 remaining on the clock.
 
Weathers hit a jumper to push the lead back into double-digits but Joshua Wesley answered back to cut the lead back to nine. The lead stayed within single-digits for the remainder of the game.
 
Dominic Jones found DeAndre Smith under the basket for the layup as the Wildcats pulled within four points at 62-58 with 7:09 to play, which was their closest margin since the 13:31 mark in the first period.
 
Dallas Jones racked up 16 points and 5 rebounds in the win.
 
“I am very proud of our effort today,” said head coach Brennen Shingleton. “We are in a growth process as a program and have great guys that play hard for each other. We need to continue to strive to do our best every opportunity we get on the court. Wiley is a great team and very well coached. I am very proud of our approach and more importantly the outcome.”
 
The Rams host LSU-Shreveport (11-3, 7-2) on Monday, January 14th. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m.
