 FORT WORTH, Texas—The Texas Wesleyan women’s basketball team fell to top ranked Wiley College 107-93 inside the Sid Richardson Center on Saturday afternoon. The Lady Wildcats (15-1, 9-0 RRAC) are sitting at the top spot in the RRAC standings and are ranked 20th in the NAIA Division 1 Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Top 25 Poll, which was released on Tuesday.
 
“Wiley showed tonight why they are the first place team in the Red River Conference,” said head coach Bill Franey. “Our girls closed the margin late in the game but Wiley made the plays to close out the win.”
 
The Lady Rams (12-4, 8-2) fell behind early in the first half as the Lady Wildcats stretched the lead out by as far as 19 points with 6:24 remaining before the half. Texas Wesleyan cut into the deficit to go into the locker room down by 13, at 52-39.
 
Texas Wesleyan shot 36.4 percent (12-33) from the field, 37.5 percent (3-8) from behind the arc, but capitalized on free-throw shot opportunities sinking down 75 percent (12-16) from behind the line in the first half. Wiley College shot above 50 percent in all categories in the first half, shooting 57.1 percent (20-35) from the field, 62.5 percent (5-8) from three-point range, and 58.3 percent (7-12) from the free-throw line.
 
The Lady Wildcats led in double-digits until the 6:30 mark in the second period, after Carneisha Sims sunk down two free throws to cut the lead into single digits at 88-79. Sims had 10 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 assists in the contest.
 
 Wiley extended the lead back into double-digits but a three-pointer by Kashyla Fields off of an assist by Takoia Larry would pull the Lady Rams within 7 points at 97-90 with 3:22 remaining to play. Fields had 18 points in the game.
 
Larry posted her second-highest scoring game this season with 23 points. The junior guard also had 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Kayla McCray notched up 17 points and 6 rebounds.
 
The Lady Rams return to action on Monday, January 14th hosting LSU-Shreveport (12-3, 7-2) at the Sid Richardson Center. Tip-off is set at 5:30 p.m.
