AUSTIN, Texas - The Texas Wesleyan men’s basketball team fell to Huston-Tillotson (5-13, 4-8 RRAC) in a close overtime battle 90-83 in Austin, Texas on Saturday night. Mo Weathers led the Rams (13-6, 8-5 RRAC) in scoring with 20 points and 5 assists. It was the second-highest scoring effort this season for Weathers.
This marks the second overtime game of the season for Texas Wesleyan. The Rams defeated Bacone 66-63 in overtime on January 7
th.
HTU started the first half off with an early run to jump out to a 16-4 lead with 14:23 remaining in the first period. The Rams showed their resiliency and was able to bounce back into their rhythm and eventually tied the game at 31-31 with 1:41 remaining before the half. The Rams entered halftime only down by a basket at 33-31.
The entire second period stayed within single-digits. Dallas Jones hit a three-pointer from behind the arc to give the Rams a 68-65 lead with only 1:01 to play. Tyrice Hill for HTU answered back with a three-pointer to send the game into overtime.
The Rams shot the ball 31.4 percent from the field but capitalized on their free-throw shot opportunities, shooting 80.5 percent from behind the line.
Oscar Griffin came away with 18 points and 7 rebounds in the game, while Dallas Jones notched up 17 points and 4 rebounds. Teance Walton was two rebounds shy of a double-double with 10 points and 8 rebounds.
The Rams return to action when they visit Our Lady of the Lake (12-7, 9-3 RRAC) on Monday, January 21
st at 7:30 p.m.
