Texas Wesleyan Upset In Battle Of Rams

 AUSTIN, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University Basketball team (12-6, 8-4 RRAC) took a surprising 86-74 loss to Huston-Tillotson University (8-13, 6-6 RRAC) on Saturday night.
 
The Lady Rams started the game on a 8-0 run, but the HT Lady Rams caught up and took a 21-19 lead midway through the first half.
 
The two teams battled, keeping the game close, with Huston-Tillotson taking a slight 37-34 lead at the break.
 
Kashyla Fields got the Lady Rams within one at 56-55 with a shot from behind the arc, but the HT Lady Rams quickly got back out in front steadily getting back out at as much as 12 points, and taking the 86-74 win.
 
“Houston-Tillotson outplayed our team in every facet of the gamed tonight. They were ready to play and took the game completely away from us. The deserved to win,” commented head coach Bill Franey after the contest.
 
HTU had five players score in double digits while shooting 44.6 percent from the floor, while the Lady Rams shot 54.9 percent from the floor.  The difference seemed to be turnovers. Texas Wesleyan committed 28 turnovers that turned into 36 points for Huston Tillotson.
 
Toeisha Cooper led all players with 22points and 12 boards in the loss. Kayla McCray added 19 points to go along with seven rebounds for the Wesleyan. Andre’a Davis posted 10 points in the game.
 
The Lady Rams will travel further south to take on 23rd ranked Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, TX on Monday, January 21 starting at 5:30 p.m.
