Rams Fall to Jarvis Christian, 72-67

 FORT WORTH, Texas – The Texas Wesleyan men’s basketball team (13-8, 7-7 RRAC) fell to Jarvis Christian College (8-12, 6-8 RRAC) 72-67 on Saturday afternoon at the Sid Richardson Center. Oscar Griffin led all scorers with 23 points in the game. Griffin also came away with six rebounds and three assists.
 
This marks the first win over the Rams for the Bulldogs in four years. Jarvis Christian last defeated Texas Wesleyan on March 7th, 2009. The Rams have won the last seven previous meetings between the two schools.
 
The Bulldogs pulled out to an early seven point lead at 16-9 with 14:30 remaining in the first half. The Rams answered by going on a 12-0 run to push past the Bulldogs. Mo Weathers hit back-to-back 3-pointers to pull the Rams within one point at 16-15. Weathers was 3-5 from behind the arc in the first half. The senior also had 18 points and four assists in the game.
 
Griffin sunk down the next three-pointer to give the Rams their first lead of the first half at 18-16 with 11:47 remaining in the period.
 
The Rams were ahead by seven points at 25-18, but Chris Davis hit a three to cut the Bulldogs’ deficit to four. Dallas Jones answered back from the three-point line to extend the lead back out to seven, at 28-21 with 6:18 remaining on the clock. Jones tallied up 12 points and four rebounds in the game.
 
The Rams entered halftime with an 8-point advantage over the Bulldogs at 34-26.
 
Weathers found Jones beyond the arc as he hit the three-pointer to start off the second period and to give the Rams their first double-digit lead of the game.
 
The Rams were ahead by 10 points at the 15:04 mark in the second half. The bulldogs responded with an 8-0 run to make it a one possession lead for the Rams at 45-43 with 12:14 to play.
 
Tramaine Simmons converted on a layup to give the Bulldogs their first lead since the 13:36 mark in the first half, at 49-48 with 9:56 remaining. The game stayed within single-digits for the remainder of the contest.
 
Teance Walton also scored in double-digits with 11 points for the Rams.
 
Texas Wesleyan will return to the court on Monday, January 28th when the Rams host Texas College (15-6, 9-5 RRAC) at 7:30 p.m.
