Lady Rams Shutout Eagles

FORT WORTH, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan University women's soccer team (8-1-2, 2-1-1 SAC) notched its eighth shutout of the season on Saturday.  The Lady Rams blanked Southwestern Christian University (7-3-1, 2-2 SAC) 3-0.
 
The Lady Rams dominated the ball from the start, outshooting the Eagles 9-1 in the first half.  In the 40th minute Jessica Watton put the Rams on the board with a goal off an assist from Kaitlin Bush.  In the 44th minute Leah Valtman played a free kick into the box and Watton knocked in her 10th goal of the season.
 
The game looked to be in danger before the second half got underway.  Lightning delayed the contest for nearly an hour, and rain continued to fall as the second half finally got underway.
 
The Rams treaded water until Brianna Wilson finally put the game out of reach with an unassisted strike in the 83rd minute.
 
For the game, the Rams outshot the Eagles 18-5.  Both teams took four corner kicks.  Texas Wesleyan benefitted from a 12-5 foul count.
 
Nikki Lockwood (7-1-2) made a pair of saves to preserve her sixth shutout of the season.  SCU's Kiley Wells made five saves in the loss.
 
"We were happy to get a quality win in this one, but we know that we still have a lot of work to do in order to get where we want to be," commented head coach Josh Gibbs.  "Our players are excited and ready for that challenge, and I am certain that we will have an all-around better performance on Tuesday."
 
The Lady Rams will return to action on Tuesday, when they travel to Oklahoma City, OK, to take on Mid-America Christian University in Sooner Athletic Conference play.  That game is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start.
