OKLAHOMA CITY, OK: The 19th ranked Texas Wesleyan University men's soccer team (9-3-1, 3-2 SAC) suffered a 3-1 loss at the hands of Mid-America Christian University (8-3-1, 3-2 SAC) on Wednesday.
Heavy rain in Oklahoma City moved the game, originally scheduled for Tuesday, to the artificial surface at Newcastle High School.
Raphael Bonelle put the Evangels in command with unassisted goals in the 23rd and 29th minutes. Sandwiched between those goals, MACU's Peterson Neri was tagged with a red card and the Evangels continued shorthanded.
Ivan Kovacevic briefly gave the Rams hope in the second half when he knocked in his 11th goal of the season in the 65th minute, but 2:38 later Bonelle finished off a hat trick and restored MACU's two-goal advantage.
For the game, MACU outshot Texas Wesleyan 19-8 and led 4-2 in corner kicks. Five Rams received yellow cards in the game.
Arnold Martinez (8-3-1) made four saves for the Rams, while
Arturo Sanchez made a pair of stops in the final 20 minutes. Tyler McIntosh picked up the win with five saves for the Evangels.
The Rams will return to action on Saturday, when they travel to Chickasha, OK, to take on the University of Science and Arts. That game is scheduled for a 3:00 p.m. start.
