SHAWNEE, OK: The Texas Wesleyan University volleyball team (13-15, 5-4 SAC) nearly came away with a big upset against Oklahoma Baptist University (23-4, 9-0 SAC) in a 3-2 (25-13, 22-25, 23-25, 25-20, 15-11) game that had to make the Lady Bison faithful nervous on Thursday night.

The Lady Rams had the game tied at 5-5 with a kill from Lauren Hamaker before the Lady Bison quickly jumped out to a 14-9 lead. OBU then went on a 9-1 run to take a commanding 23-12 lead. Abigail Zipoy knocked down a kill, before the Bison took a 25-13 first set.

The Lady Rams bounced back in the second set, taking an early 6-3 lead after a Meghan Finley kill. The game went back and forth and was tied ten times before the Lady Rams took a 5-2 run to end the set capped by a Katherine Rosenbusch kill to take a 25-22 win.

Texas Wesleyan kept the pressure on the in the third set, taking a small three-point 8-5 lead after a Courtney Shirey kill. The eighth ranked team in the nation came back to tie the game at 9-9, and later took a 19-14 advantage. The Lady Rams again started a furious 6-0 rally with their backs against the wall with the Lady Bison leading 23-19. Alex Hendee went beastmode and rocked OBU with three consecutive kills to make it a one-point game. An Oklahoma Baptist error tied the game, and Hendee pushed the Lady Rams to set point with another kill. Another OBU error gave the Lady Rams a 2-1 match led.

The Lady Bison scampered out to an 8-4 lead to start the fourth set and worked hard to keep a handful lead on the upset minded Lady Rams. A Shirey kill brought the score to 14-11, but the Bison got back out to a five point 22-17 lead late. The Lady Rams battled, but Oklahoma Baptist forced a game five with a 25-20 win.

The Lady Bison overpowered the Lady Rams to start the third set, taking a 3-0 lead capped by a kill from the leading hitter in NAIA Division I volleyball Kristin Pressley. The fifth kill from Pressley in the set made it 6-1 OBU, as the Bison relied heavily on their ace. Texas Wesleyan did not make it easy for the Lady Bison, taking a 7-3 run to bring the game within reach at 13-10. With the match on the line, a Shirey kill made it 14-11, but Wesleyan could not get the upset dropping the match 3-2 with a15-11 fifth set loss.

Rosenbusch led the Rams with 11 kills. Lauren Hutchinson tallied 23 digs in the match. Hamaker posted 29 assists in the loss. Shirey finished with 11 kills. Hendee had a double double with 10 kills and 10 assists.
