CHICKASHA, OK: The Texas Wesleyan University women's soccer team (9-2-2, 3-2-1 SAC) picked up an important 2-1 conference win on the road against the University of Science and Arts (2-9, 1-4 SAC) at Drover Pitch on Saturday.
The Lady Rams put two shots on goal in the early goings.
Jessica Watton and
Kaylie Hart both put shots on frame but each was turned away by Drover keeper Addie Lee.
The Lady Drovers also took some shots early. USAO put three on goal, but
Nikki Lockwood held her own collecting each of them to keep the Drovers off the board in the first 20 minutes of the match.
Watton would get one more shot on goal before the half, but Lee got the save and the two teams took the scoreless tie into the second half.
Wesleyan came out strong in the second half, taking four shots in the first 15 minutes. The aggressiveness paid off for the Rams in the 67th minute when
Lauren Kee ran free from the defense on the left side of the goal and put it in the back of the net for a 1-0 lead.
Texas Wesleyan kept their foot on the throttle and in the 80th minute
Brianna Wilson found Kee who knocked it past the keeper for her second goal of the match. The late goal gave the Rams some breathing room at 2-0.
That second goal would turn out to be important as the Drovers tried to protect their pitch. Ryah Vyse played a ball into Linda Addo who scored to make a 2-1 game in the 82nd minute.
Lockwood had four saves in the contest. Lee picked up her seventh and eighth goals of the season in the win.
The Lady Rams will stay on the road to take on Wayland Baptist University in Plainview, TX on Tuesday, October 22 starting at 1:00 pm.
