#19 Rams Slip To #13 Wayland Baptist

PLAINVIEW, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University men’s soccer team (9-5-1, 3-4-0 SAC) dropped a 4-1 conference match at No. 13 Wayland Baptist University (12-2-1, 7-1-0 SAC) at J.V. Hilliard Field on Tuesday night.
 
The Pioneers came into the contest on a three game winning streak, outscoring their opponents 9-2. The only conference loss the Pioneers have suffered this season is a 1-0 upset at the hands of Northwood. The Rams are now on a three game losing streak, all road losses as Oklahoma has not been a friendly place for the Rams this week.
 
It took only 34 seconds for Wayland Baptist to score as David Neuberth put in an unassisted goal for an extremely early lead. The Pioneers would score three more goals in the 4-1 win.
 
The Rams lone goal came in the 34 th minute when Ivan Kovacevic crossed an incredibly accurate ball to the foot of Max O'Shea who knocked in the back of the net for his second goal of the season.
 
Arnold Martinez (8-4-1) suffered the loss in a four save effort. The shots went 14-7 in the Pioneers favor. Wayland Baptist held the edge on corner kicks at 6-1. The Rams were cautioned three times, while WBU was cautioned twice in the match.
 
The Rams will come home and try to bounce back against John Brown University on Saturday, October 22 starting at 7:00 pm at Martin Field.
