OKLAHOMA CITY, OK: The Texas Wesleyan University women's soccer team (10-4-2, 4-4-1 SAC) suffered a 2-0 loss in Sooner Athletic Conference play at the hands of no. 19 Oklahoma City University (11-4, 7-1 SAC) on Tuesday.
The Lady Rams battled the conference leading Stars to a scoreless draw at halftime. OCU outshot Texas Wesleyan 10-4 in the period, but
Nikki Lockwood made four saves to keep the Stars off the board.
In the 63rd minute, Allison Worsham broke the tie with a goal off an assist from Meghan McMahon. The Rams remained just one strike away until Makayla Braun headed in a corner kick from Allie Glazner in the 83rd minute.
For the game, Oklahoma City outshot Texas Wesleyan 18-9 and led 10-5 in corner kicks. The Stars were called for 15 fouls compared to 10 for the Lady Rams. Lockwood finished with five saves for TWU, while Alissa Reed and Ashley Bechtold each made a save to combine on the shutout for Oklahoma City.
"This was a tough loss tonight," commented head coach Josh Gibbs. "We had a great work rate and some good ideas, but we were sloppy in our execution. That can't happen against Oklahoma City if you expect to win."
The Lady Rams will play their regular season finale on Saturday, when they host Southwestern Assemblies of God University. That game is scheduled for a 5:00 p.m. start at Martin Field. The Lady Rams are currently sixth in the SAC standings, but could rise as high as fourth with a win. The top four teams host an SAC tournament game on Saturday, November 9, while 5-8 must travel for their quarterfinal match.
