FORT WORTH, TX: In the program's first season in the Sooner Athletic Conference, the Texas Wesleyan University men's soccer team will host an SAC tournament game this Friday at Martin Field.
The Rams wrapped up the regular season at 12-5-1 overall and 6-4 in conference play to earn the third seed in the upcoming tournament. Quarter and semifinal games will be played at the higher seed, so the Rams will host sixth seeded Oklahoma City University at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
Oklahoma City stands at 8-7-2 overall and 4-4-2 in SAC play. The Rams prevailed in the lone meeting between the two teams this season. In that contest, played at OCU,
Alejandro Rivas scored in the 74th minute and
Arturo Sanchez needed just one save to preserve a 1-0 shutout. The Stars own the all-time series with a 10-2-1 record against Texas Wesleyan.
The SAC tournament will feature three teams listed in the latest NAIA Coaches' Poll. No. 12 Wayland Baptist is the second seed at 8-1-1 in conference play and will host seventh seeded Saint Gregory's (4-5-1). No. 24 Science & Arts won the regular season championship at 9-1 and will host eighth seeded John Brown (4-5-1). The Rams, who have been ranked as high as 18th this season, were listed amongst those receiving votes in the latest poll. Fourth seeded Northwood (5-3-2) will host fifth seeded Southwestern Christian (5-4-1) in the remaining quarterfinal match.
Meanwhile the Lady Rams are seeded fifth and will travel to fourth seeded Oklahoma Baptist University at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday.
