Lady Rams Drop Home Opener

FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women’s basketball team (1-1) took an 81-74 loss to #17 Our Lady of the Lake University (1-0) at the Sid Richardson Center on Wednesday.
 
The Lady Saints jumped out to a 5-0 lead to start before Kashay Barnes hit a three to cut the lead to 5-3. A Caitlin Boal three pointer made it a 7-6 game, and a ToiEasha Cooper tied the game at 9-9 with a free throw shot. The Lady Rams held the lead for the rest of the half and by as much 12 at 36-24. Wesleyan held off the Saints and took a 40-36 lead at halftime.
 
The two teams took turns with the lead in the second half, until a Mercedes Dobson three made it 56-52 Saints with 13:43 left in the game. Things got out of hand for the Rams, as the Saints led by more the 10 with less than five minutes to go. An Amy Moody three at the buzzer wasn’t enough to get the Rams back in the game, taking an 81-74 loss.
 
Texas Wesleyan actually shot better than their opponent for the night, the Rams shot 47 percent while the Saints shot 42 percent. OLLU went 8 for a whopping 32 attempts from behind the arc, shooting only 25 percent, while Wesleyan went 5-9 for 56 percent. Free throw percentage leaned in favor of the Saints, 87 percent to 64 percent.
 
Takoia Larry led Wesleyan going 7 for 10 from the field for 17 points, while adding six boards, five assists, and four steals. Cooper had 11 points and eight rebounds in the game. Moody tallied eight assists and seven points. Barnes had 15 points, and four Lady Rams reached double figures in the effort.
 
The Lady Rams will head to Marshall, TX to play Wiley College on Tuesday, November 12 starting at 7:00 pm.
