SHREVEPORT, LA: The Texas Wesleyan University women’s basketball team (19-9, 14-7 RRAC) lost a 66-48 contest to Louisiana State University of Shreveport (21-4, 16-3 RRAC) at The Dock on Monday.
The contest was a battle of the RRAC third place team in LSU-S and the fourth place team in TWU. Heading into the game, the two teams are close in shooting from the field.
The Lady Pilots came into the contest shooting 43 percent and the Lady Rams came in shooting 45 percent on the season. LSU-S came into the game shooting 33 percent behind the arc, and 72 percent from the free throw line, while Wesleyan came in shooting 29 percent from the three point line and 63 percent from the charity stripe.
The Lady Rams held a 12-4 six minutes into the game before the Lady Pilots fought back and tied the game at 16-16 with a three pointer from Christy Willis. Willis came right back down the floor to hit another trey for a 19-16 lead.
Neither team enjoyed more than a point lead until LSU-S went on 6-0 run to take a 33-28 lead at the break.
Toieasha Cooper made it a three point game with a jumper to make it 35-32 a few minutes into the second half.
The Lady Pilots went on a tear from there, and led by more than ten points for the last ten minutes of the game taking the 66-48
The Lady Rams shot 33 percent from the field, 22 percent from the three point line, and 59 percent from the free throw line for the night.
Takoia Larry led the Rams with 14 points, while adding seven boards.
Kayla McCray had nine points and nine rebounds in the contest.
The Lady Rams will end the regular season on Senior Day against the University of the Southwest on Saturday, February 23. Tip off set for 2:00 PM at the Sid Richardson Center.
