Lady Rams Upset Two At Crossover Tourney

MARION, IN: The Texas Wesleyan University volleyball team (5-1) upset No. 22 Point Park University (3-3) 3-2 (23-25, 25-17, 25-17, 16-25, 15-7) and Davenport University (3-4) 3-0 (25-23, 25-20, 25-18) at the Indiana Wesleyan/Taylor University Crossover Tournament on Friday.
 
The Lady Rams handed the Lady Pioneers their third straight loss Friday night, as Point Park number 22nd ranking will surely be in jeopardy. The Pioneers edged out Wesleyan in the first set 25-23, before the Lady Rams took the next two sets 25-17. Point Park got back on track in the fourth set with a 25-16 win to force a fifth set. Texas Wesleyan got a spark of momentum and took a 15-7 fifth set, match win.
 
Katherine Rosenbusch led the Rams with 14 kills. Meghan Finley posted 13 kills. Abigail Zipoy notched another double double behind 11 kills and 11 digs. Lauren Hamaker and Stephanie Dominguez split the setting duties with 24 each. Lauren Hutchinson kept the Rams alive with 27 digs, while Alex Hendee added 14.
 
The Lady Rams simply overmatched the Lady Panthers who are currently receiving votes in the top 25 poll. Texas Wesleyan pushed pass Davenport 25-23 in the first set, and set the tone for the rest of the match. The Lady Panthers put up a fight, but Wesleyan took the second set 25-20 and the third set 25-18 for the win.

Head Coach Kimberly Weaver is happy with the great start to the season, "Having success against quality teams is very encouraging this early in the season. We demonstrated impressive maturity and discipline in the five set win against Point Park, and were able to maintain great execution against Davenport. I am very pleased with our performance, and am looking forward to seeing how we respond to the challenges we have tomorrow in Indiana Wesleyan and Olivet Nazarene."
 
Hendee led Wesleyan with 11 kills, while Rosenbusch added 10 in the win. Hamaker posted 21 assists, and Dominguez tacked on 10 for Wesleyan. Hutchinson had 14 digs, while Zipoy grabbed 11 digs in the match.
 
The Lady Rams will continue in the crossover tournament tomorrow with a pair of matches between Indiana Wesleyan and Olivet Nazarene University.
