Lady Rams Charge Past JBU

Box Score

FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University volleyball team (10-11, 2-1 SAC) picked up their second Sooner Athletic Conference win over John Brown University (7-13, 1-2 SAC) with a 3-0 (25-13, 25-21, 25-23) match at the Sid Richardson Center on Friday night.

The Lady Rams rattled off an 8-0 run in the first set to take a 15-8 lead.  Abigail Zipoy tallied three service aces in the final four points as Wesleyan held the Golden Eagles to only 13 points in the first set win.

The second set was a closer set as the game was tied seven times before Zipoy and Katherine Rosenbusch teamed up to give the Rams a 19-17 lead.  John Brown came back to tie the game at 19-19, but the Lady Rams battled as a Starnisha Bodie kill made it set point and a Meghan Finley kill put the second away 25-21.

The Lady Rams kept a sizeable lead in the third set, due to a fair amount of Golden Eagle miscues.  A Rosenbusch kill made it 21-14 Lady Rams. A rotation error made it match point Texas Wesleyan, but the Golden Eagles were not going away easily.  John Brown rallied four straight points before a Finley kill sealed the match win for the Rams.

Head coach Kimberly Weaver knows her team is building momentum, "Tonight was exactly what we needed. We have talked all week about the importance of executing aggressively in critical situations. We came into tonight's match with specific goals, attack early and often. That aggressiveness was reflected in the score. We have a lot of confidence and momentum heading into tomorrow's match with Oklahoma City

Rosenbusch led the attack with 14 kills. Zipoy had nine kills, four aces, and 10 digs in the match. Stephanie Dominguez led the Rams with 18 assists, while Lauren Hamaker tallied 16 assists in the effort. Lauren Hutchinson had 11 digs in the win.

The Lady Rams will take on Oklahoma City University tomorrow, September 28 at the Sid Richardson Center starting at 2:00 p.m.
