Lady Rams Knock Off Comets, 3-1

Box Score
RICHARDSON, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan University women's soccer team improved to 4-0 on the season with a 3-1 win at UT-Dallas (0-3) on Friday.

Just 58 seconds into the contest, Allison Walsh found Alexis Michaelkovich with a pass right up the middle of the field for the first goal of the day.  The Texas Wesleyan defense made that goal stand through the first half as they allowed the Comets just one errant shot in the frame.

In the 56th minute Zamora Bell made it 2-0 off an assist from Staci Popejoy and Kaitlin Bush.  UT-Dallas would not go quietly however.  Jeri Mills netted the first goal by any opponent against the Rams this season, bringing the Comets within a goal in the 72nd minute.

Jessica Watton put the game out of reach with her sixth goal of the season when the senior knocked in Paige Wheaton's corner kick in the 86th minute.

For the game, Texas Wesleyan outshot UT-Dallas 23-8.  Nikki Lockwood (4-0) needed four saves to preserve the win, while Brittany Best made seven stops for UTD.  Both teams were whistled for 15 fouls.

"This was the perfect test for us," commented head coach Josh Gibbs.  "They are a well-coached, direct, disciplined team that came right at us.  It was physical throughout, and I was incredibly proud of the players staying focused and composed.  Today was a complete team win.  Now we have to recover quickly to be ready for Concordia on Sunday."

The Lady Rams will host Concordia University Texas on Sunday.  That match is scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. start at Martin Field.
