Mid-America Evades Texas Wesleyan

FORT WORTH, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan University women's soccer team (7-3, 3-1 SAC) suffered its first Sooner Athletic Conference loss of the season on Tuesday.  The Lady Rams fell 2-0 to Mid-America Christian (9-3, 2-2 SAC) at Martin Field.

Three offsides calls negated three Texas Wesleyan goals during the contest.  Mid-America Christian got on the board with a long strike from Cici Mitchell that hit the crossbar and went in.  Seconds later, Sandy Villarreal just got an extra step before receiving the ball and delivering it to the back of the net.  Alexis Michaelkovich also had a good look in the 12th minute, but her shot hit the post and the Rams could not score in the first period.

Two offsides calls in the second half were dubious at best.  In the 71st minute Michaelkovich appeared to have tied the game off an assist from Kaitlin Bush, but was called offside.  In the 83rd minute, Brianna Wilson played ahead to Kailene Allis who found Bush in front of the goal.  Bush knocked the ball by a MACU defender for the tying score, but was called offside.

Just 1:30 later, MACU got a goal from Chelsea Swisher that sealed the win.

For the game, the Rams outshot the Evangels 26-8.  Of those eight shots, only three were on goal.  The Rams also led 5-2 in corner kicks.  MACU's Kaitlyn Whitten made eight saves in the win, while Nikki Lockwood made just one save for Texas Wesleyan.

Texas Wesleyan will return to action on Friday, when they host the University of Science & Arts (OK) at Martin Field.  That SAC contest is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. start
