Lady Rams Close Regular Season with 2-0 Win

WAXAHACHIE, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan University women's soccer team (10-4-1, 6-2-1 SAC) closed out the regular season with a 2-0 win at Southwestern Assemblies of God University (2-14-1, 0-9 SAC).  The win lifted the Rams to second in the conference standings heading into next week's SAC Tournament.

The Rams were in complete control on Saturday.  Texas Wesleyan outshot SAGU 10-0 in the first half, but SAGU goalkeeper Amber Belise made three saves to keep the game scoreless.

Sandy Villarreal caught the Lions on their heels when she broke the scoreless tie with a goal just 53 seconds into the second half.

Sabina Obidinski made it 2-0 when she knocked in her first goal of the season on a penalty kick in the 60th minute.

For the game, the Rams outshot the Lions 16-3.  The defensive line did not allow a shot on goal while Nikki Lockwood nailed down her sixth shutout of the season.

"Today was a tough one because we were shorthanded," said head coach Josh Gibbs.  "The players fought hard against a physical and organized team.  It was great to see players step up and proved a spark.  Sabina [Obidinski] and Kat [Bynum] were great in the midfield and Kaylie [Hart] was great in the back.  I can't say enough about their performances.  Hopefully we can rest up and heal up for the first round of the tournament."

As the second seed in next week's Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament, the Rams will host seventh seeded Oklahoma City University on Friday at Martin Field.  Game time is tentatively set for 7:30 p.m.  The Rams defeated the Stars 3-2 in double-overtime on Tuesday.
