Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Lady Rams Muzzle Bulldogs

FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women's basketball team (4-1) dominated old conference foe Jarvis Christian College (0-1) in a 91-55 win at the Sid Richardson Center on Tuesday

Texas Wesleyan started the contest with a 10-2 rally capped by a Caitlin Boal layup on a pretty pass from Carneisha Sims. The Lady Rams kept the defensive pressure on taking a 15-4 lead on a Kashyla Fields good layup off the glass.

The Rams held the Bulldogs to under 10 points for over nine minutes, and held a better than 10 point lead for most of the half. Liz Handy downed a three pointer to make it a 34-18 game with just over five minutes left in the first half. Jarvis was just over matched, as Fields knocked down a jumper before right before the break to make it a 48-20 lead at halftime.

Wesleyan shot 51 percent from the field in the first half, while Jarvis managed 28 percent. The Bulldogs shot well from behind the line and the free throw line, but with limited attempts. Jarvis went 3-7 from the three point line and 5-6 from the free throw line. Texas Wesleyan shot a tad better 3-6 for a 50 percent clip from behind the arc, and was 9-15 for 60 percent from the charity stripe.

The Rams went on a 6-0 run to start the second half, capped by an Amy Easley mid-range jumper to extend the lead to 54-30. The Wesleyan bench played most of the second half, and also played well against the Bulldogs. Cheyenne Swoopes was on point with a layup, slashing through the lane for a 73-39 lead. Liz Handy knocked down a three pointer to push the lead, and Angela Nguyen got in the action with a nothing but net triple to make it an 88-51 lead.

Alycia Allen beat the defense with a jumper to give the Rams a 39-point lead, the largest of the night. Wesleyan cruised the rest of the way to a 91-55 win.

Fields led the way with 17 points. Onyesonam Nolisa notched a double-double behind 11 points and 15 boards. Swoopes tallied 11 points. Stacey Darnley posted nine points, five assists, and five rebounds in the win.

The Lady Rams start a five game road stretch on Friday, November 14, taking on the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, TX. Tip-off is set for 7:00 pm.
