Lady Rams Pull Off 88-75 Win At The Eagles' Nest

EDMOND, OK: The Texas Wesleyan University women's basketball team (6-2) rallied to an 88-75 win over Oklahoma Christian University (1-2) at the Eagles' Nest on Thursday.

The Lady Rams started the game out with a bang on an Amy Easley splash from downtown. The Eagles fought to keep the game close, but the Rams did a good job of controlling the ball game. A Stacey Darnley triple made it a 10-6 Wesleyan lead after three minutes of game time. A Kashyla Fields three pointer extended the lead to 18-10 later in the first half.

The Eagles cut the lead to 18-16 after McKenzie Stanford free throw. Another Darnley triple kept the Rams in control midway through the half. Oklahoma Christian kept fighting and finally took a 24-23 lead on a Sydney Hill good free throw.

The Lady Rams quickly tied the game and regained a 27-26 lead after Easley was able to get to the charity stripe to knock down a pair of free throws. The Eagles did the same thing late in the half to even the game at 30-30 with another Stanford free throw.

That did not faze Texas Wesleyan though, as Fields knocked down another three pointer for the lead. The Lady Rams held on to the lead, taking a 42-36 lead at the break.

Onyesonam Nolisa put the Rams up by eight at 46-38 with a mid-range jumper to start the second half. Oklahoma Christian went on a 14-5 run capped by a Jasmine Hinton jumper to take a 52-51 lead with 13:55 left in the game. Darnley answered with a jumper at the other end to keep the Rams in front.

Texas Wesleyan built up a lead from there, and dominated the game. The Lady Rams led by as many as 17 points and cruised to an 88-75 win.

The Rams outscored the Eagles in the paint 16-12, and edged OCU in points off turnovers 9-6. TWU shot 42 percent from the field, while Oklahoma Christian shot 35 in the contest.

Katelynn Threats posted a double-double with 20 points and 15 rebounds. Darnley posted a season high 25 points, adding five steals and four assists. Fields notched 14 points and five boards. Easley had 14 points in the win.

The Eagles had won the last 18 of 19 games at home. The Lady Rams pulled off what many teams that play in the Eagles' Nest cannot boast about. Darnley tied the school record after connecting on seven three pointers.

Texas Wesleyan will continue their road swing with an exhibition game in Stephenville, TX against Tarleton State University on Saturday, November 22. Tip-off is set for a 7:00 pm.
