Lady Rams Finish Season Strong

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK: The Texas Wesleyan University volleyball team (14-18, 10-6 SAC) finished the regular season with a strong 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-21) win over Oklahoma City University (19-10, 11-4 SAC) on Saturday.

The match was tightly contested to start, and the Lady Ram held a slight 9-8 lead. A short 3-0 run capped by an Abigail Zipoy kill extended the lead to 12-8. Another 5-0 Wesleyan rally capped by Kristina Gafford service ace made it a 17-10 set. Texas Wesleyan kept a handful of points lead until a Shelby Stinnett kill gave the Rams a 25-19 win.

The Stars got out to a short 4-2 lead to start the second set, before Wesleyan took an 8-2 run capped by a Stinnett kill to take a 10-6 lead. Texas Wesleyan controlled the set, extending the lead to 20-12, highlighted by a Zipoy kill. The Stars could make no ground behind a very disciplined Lady Ram offensive. Alex Hendee knocked down a kill for set point, and Stinnett finished the set with a power shot to take the set 25-17.

A few Ram errors to start the third set allowed the Stars to keep the game close at 4-4. Wesleyan made an 8-3 run capped by a Zipoy smash to make it a 12-7 lead. The Rams held a 13-9 lead before Oklahoma City posted a 4-0 run to tie the game at 13 apiece. The two teams played close for there, as the score was tied four times before a Hendee kill gave the Rams the narrowest of margins at 19-17. Oklahoma City kept the set within striking distance, but a Lynsay Buell and Meghan Finley block ended the match for a 25-21 win.

Stinnett led the Lady Rams with 11 kills. Zipoy posted 10 kills and 10 digs. Buell tallied six kills and four blocks. Gafford notched 15 assists, while Lauren Hamaker had 14 assists and nine digs in the match. Shaughnessy Hearn tacked 15 digs in the win.
