Rams Ground Eagles, 84-55

BETHANY, OK:  The Texas Wesleyan University men's basketball team (15-12, 8-9 SAC) took an 84-55 win at Southwestern Christian University (6-18, 2-15 SAC) in Sooner Athletic Conference action on Thursday.
 
Kenny Rhymes opened the game by knocking down a three-pointer.  Another trey from Jervon Hooks capped a quick 10-5 run to start the game for Texas Wesleyan.  The Eagles battled back to take a 16-14 lead, but the Rams regained the lead at 24-22 with a bucket from Jorge Redmon and held off the Eagles for the remainder of the period on their way to a 34-27 advantage at the break.
 
The Rams blitzed the Eagles in the second half, shooting a red-hot 69.6% from the field and steadily pulling away.  Texas Wesleyan opened a 20-point margin at 66-46.  A pair of free throws from Bruce Jacobs capped a 23-6 run that spanned more than six minutes of game time and left the Rams with a healthy 71-46 edge.  The Rams went on to lead by as many as 31 points (84-53) on their way to the 84-55 win.
 
For the game, the Rams outshot the Eagles 56%-30% from the field and 35%-25% from long range.  The Rams took a rebounding margin of 37-24, led 27-19 in bench points, 30-14 in the paint, and 12-5 in points off of turnovers.
 
Head coach Brennen Shingleton was pleased with the effort.  "I thought this was a good team effort.  I'm really proud of our leadership tonight.  Now we need to continue to concentrate on the task ahead."
 
Redmon led all scorers with 26 points on 9-of-13 shooting including 4-of-7 three-pointers and a perfect 4-for-4 at the free throw line.  Jacobs finished with 14 points and six rebounds.  Rilwan Bakare came off the bench to contribute 11 points and five boards.  Rhymes filled the stat sheet with nine points, seven rebounds, and seven assists.
 
Texas Wesleyan will host an Alumni Game in the Sid Richardson Center on Friday at 8:00 p.m.  Fans are invited to relive the glory days with several members of the 2006 National Championship team.  The Rams will be back in action in their final home game on Saturday, when they host Oklahoma City University.  Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
