USAO Drives Past Rams

Box Score

CHICKASHA, OK:  The Texas Wesleyan University men's basketball team (15-14, 8-11 SAC) suffered a 94-82 loss at the University of Science & Arts (13-13, 10-9 SAC) on Tuesday.

The Rams led for the majority of the first half, but could not gain any separation from the Drovers.  Threes from Dallas Jones and Deonte Jones gave the Rams their largest lead of the period at 17-11.  The score was tied at 39 two minutes before the break, when Deonte Jones buried another trey.  The Rams went on to lead 48-43 at halftime.

In the second half, a three from Shavon Scott capped a lightning quick 10-0 USAO run that gave the Drovers the lead at 63-59.  The Rams were down just two, 65-63, when USAO got a three from Kennis White, followed by one of their eight second half steals and a fast break layup from Shavon Scott to regain control.

Texas Wesleyan kept things close, but another steal from Scott and a dunk from Jahseth Lloyd pushed the score to 86-76 with 1:37 to play, putting the exclamation point on a senior day win for the home team at USAO Field House.

Turnovers were the Rams' undoing.  Texas Wesleyan committed 20 turnovers leading to 25 points for the Drovers while USAO's eight turnovers led to just nine points for the Rams.

Texas Wesleyan outshot USAO 54%-46% from the field and 40%-35% from long range.  The Rams also won the battle of the boards 39-32, but it was not enough to overcome the turnover differential.

Dallas Jones led the Rams with 21 points, while Jorge Redmon finished with 18.  Kenny Rhymes notched a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds.  Deonte Jones contributed 11 points as well.

All five USAO starters scored in double-figures led by Scott's game-high 26 points.  Lloyd finished with 22, Donnie Brown 15, Tyler Renolds 11, and White 10.

With all teams jockeying for position in next week's SAC Tournament, the Rams are now seventh in the SAC standings with one regular season game to play.  Texas Wesleyan will travel to Plainview, TX, to take on Wayland Baptist University on Saturday.  That regular season finale is scheduled for a 3:00 p.m. start.
