Lady Rams Dominate Drovers

CHICKASHA, OK: The Texas Wesleyan University women's basketball team (14-14, 9-10 SAC) took it to the University of Science and Arts Oklahoma (5-17, 4-15 SAC) in a 98-40 romp at UASO Fieldhouse on Tuesday.
 
The Lady Rams started strong, jumping out to a 12-2 lead that started with an Amy Moody three pointer, and capped by a Krissy Parker tip-in. The Drovers started 0-9 from the field, their only three points coming from free throws.
 
The frosty Wesleyan defense continued to suffocate the Drovers, while the Lady Rams had their way on the offensive end. Texas Wesleyan made a dominating 19-0 run capped by Takoia Larry jumper to take a 31-3 lead, before Paige Pulliam finally put in the first field goal for the Drovers with 9:14 left in the first half.
 
The Lady Rams sustained a monstrous lead for the rest of the half, going into the break, 51-21. Moody dropped 20 points while going a perfect 8-8 from the field, sinking four from the three line in the first half. Wesleyan shot 60 percent from the field, and 80 percent (4-5) from behind the arc. USAO shot only 21 percent from the field and 17 percent from downtown.  
 
It only got worse for the Drovers in the second half, as Moody put the Rams up by 40 to start the second half. Wesleyan took a 14-4 run capped by a Caitlin Boal lay-in to push the lead to a 50-point, 77-27 lead. The Lady Rams never took their foot off the gas, nearly tying the team single game margin of victory record with a 58-point, 98-40 blowout. The record stands at 61, When the Lady Rams defeated Jarvis Christian 106-45 during the 1985-86 season.
 
The Lady Rams finished the game shooting 60 percent from the field and 54 percent from behind the arc. The Drovers shot 25 percent from the field and 17 percent from downtown. The Rams out-rebounded their opponent 51-21 in the lop-sided victory.
 
Moody led all players with 24 points. Kayla McCray added a double-double with 12 points and 17 rebounds. Parker notched 17 points. Larry posted 13 points and six rebounds in the win.
 
The Lady Rams sit in the sixth spot in the conference standings, and play #24 Wayland Baptist University in Plainview, TX on Saturday, March 1 in the last regular season contest. Tip-off is set for 3:00 p.m.
