Lady Rams Rip Patriots

FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women's basketball team (10-11) picked up a solid 81-73 win over Arlington Baptist College (11-6) at the Sid Richardson Center on Tuesday.
 
The Patriots came out ready to play, and were red hot from behind the arc to start the contest. Morgan Hale put in a triple for an 8-4 lead a few minutes in. Amy Moody fired back with a three point shot to bring the Lady Rams within one point at 10-9. Another Hale jumper from behind the arc kept Arlington Baptist with a 13-11 lead. The two teams went back and forth, taking turns holding the lead until Maggie Briggs-Scribner knocked down a jumper with under a minute remaining in the half to make it 45-44 Lady Rams. ToiEasha Cooper found the bottom of the net on a put back lay-in at the buzzer to take a 47-44 halftime lead.
 
The Patriots went 8-16 from behind the arc in the first half of play, while the Rams only went 1-3 in the same category. Both teams shot 51 percent from the field. The lead changed 13 times in the first half as the Lady Rams combatted the three point shooting with 14 second chance points.   
 
Texas Wesleyan kept the heat on to start the second half keeping a 53-48 lead on a Krissy Parker layup.  The Rams stretched the gap to a 14 point, 65-51advantage on a Kayla McCray jumper in the lane. The Patriots kept fighting and kept hitting from three point land, cutting the lead to 73-70 on a Shanice Hill three pointer with 5:35 to go in the game. The Lady Rams held off Arlington Baptist from there to take the 81-73 win.
 
Wesleyan out shot their opponent 52 percent, to 42 percent from the field. The game enjoyed 15 lead changes .The Rams dominated the glass 49-24, while scoring 58 points in the paint.  The Lady Rams also did a great job of moving the ball, notching 23 assists as a team.
 
McCray had her best game of the season, posting 22 points and 15 boards. Onyesonam Nolisa also grabbed a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Cooper finished with 12 points, seven rebounds, and five assists.
 
The Lady Rams will take on Northwood University on Thursday, February 6 at the Sid Richardson Center. Tip-off is set for a 6:00 p.m. start.
