Lady Rams Conquer Knights

Box Score

FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women's basketball team (11-11, 6-7 SAC) notched an easy 88-54 blowout win over rival Northwood University (8-15, 1-12 SAC) at the Sid Richardson Center on Thursday.

Those who braved the frozen Texas weather were treated to an old fashioned "whoopin'" as the Lady Rams dominated from tip-off. Wesleyan held Northwood to only two field goals in the first eleven minutes of the contest. ToiEasha Cooper capped a 6-0 run to start with a running lay in. Virginia Wright hit a jumper to make it 10-4 with 15:24 left in the first half, and the next field goal made by the Knights did not occur until the 8:23 mark. By then the Lady Rams had jumped out to a 27-9 lead. Cooper knocked down another jumper to make it a 48-19, before a Northwood two pointer made it 48-21 heading into halftime.

The Lady Knights could do nothing to help their cause in the second half, as Krissy Parker put home a jumper to push the lead to 58-24 a few minutes in. The Lady Rams led by as many as 38 after another Parker layup made it an overwhelming 77-39 lead. Northwood was simply overpowered and outmatched as the Lady Rams never fell below a 30 point lead for most of the half, on the way to an 88-54 drumming.

Texas Wesleyan shot 54 percent from the field, while Northwood shot 30 percent. The Lady Rams kept the Knights from driving to the hoop, while having a field day in the paint scoring 60 points in the lane. The Rams also turned 18 Northwood turnovers into 26 points.

Cooper led all players with 20 points, going 9-10 from the field.  Amy Moody put up 18 points and seven boards, while adding three assists and three steals. Krissy Parker posted 10 points, seven rebounds, and five assists in the win.

The Lady Rams will head down highway 287 to play Southwestern Assemblies of God University on Saturday, February 8. Tip-off is set for a 3:00 p.m.
