Flying Queens Bite Lady Rams, 70-52

PLAINVIEW, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women's basketball team (14-15, 9-11 SAC) finished the regular season with a 70-52  loss at the hands of #22 Wayland Baptist University (18-10, 15-4 SAC) on Saturday.
 
Wayland Baptist started the contest with a 10-1 rally capped by an Aubrey Pedigo jumper while eating seven minutes of game time.  ToiEasha Cooper made the first field goal of the half for the Lady Rams with a layup at the 11:51 mark, and another Cooper two-pointer made it a 5-12 game midway through the first half of play.
 
Caitlin Boal cut the lead to single digits with a mid-range jumper from Onyesonam Nolisa on the assist to make it 19-12.  Later in the half, Maggie Briggs-Scribner hit a jumper to cut the lead to 26-22, Flying Queens. Ashleigh Davis made the second half of a pair of free throws to take Wayland into the break at 27-22.
 
Takoia Larry kept the Lady Rams in the game with a jumper to keep the lead under control at 35-29, before Shayla Monreal started a 7-0 run with a triple to scoot out to a 42-29 lead with 13 minutes remaining. The Lady Rams kept the offensive moving, but could not contain the Flying Queens defensively, as Wayland slowly built a decent lead resulting in a 70-52 win.
 
Larry and Boal led the Lady Rams with 11 points each.  Boal added seven boards, while Cooper posted nine points and six rebounds in the effort.
 
The Lady Rams take the sixth seed in the final standing and will play Northwood University in the first round of the Sooner Conference Tournament in Shawnee, OK. Game time is to be announced.
