HTU Strikes Quickly in Second Half

FORT WORTH, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan University women's soccer team (2-2) suffered a 2-0 loss to Huston-Tillotson University (2-3-1) at Martin Field on Saturday.
 
The game was originally scheduled to be played in Austin last Friday but was rained out and moved to Fort Worth.
 
In the first half, the two teams combined for a single shot on goal, that from Texas Wesleyan's Kaylie Hart.
 
In the second half, a Texas Wesleyan corner kick in the 48th minute led to a pair of point blank shots that were blocked by the HTU defense.  Less than a minute later HTU created a counter attack and Kimberlin Palacios broke the scoreless tie.
 
In the 53rd minute Palacios threaded a ball to Hope Craft for a wide open look.  Texas Wesleyan goalkeeper Nikki Lockwood was up to the task but could not hold the ball, and HTU's Victoria Elizalde was there to knock in the rebound.
 
With ten minutes to play, the Lady Rams put together a series of four corner kicks that led to a flurry of opportunities, but the Lady Rams could not get on the board.
 
For the game, Texas Wesleyan outshot Huston-Tillotson 18-14.  Both teams put four shots on target.  HTU's Evelyn Martinez made four saves to preserve the shutout while Lockwood (2-2) made two stops.  Texas Wesleyan led 12-0 in corner kicks and 9-7 in fouls.
 
The Lady Rams will return to action on Monday, when they host Texas College.  That game is scheduled for a 5:00 p.m. start at Martin Field.
