Lady Rams Net Five Unanswered in Win Over Texas College

Box Score

FORT WORTH, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan University women's soccer team (3-2) ran away with a 5-1 win over Texas College (0-6-1) at Martin Field on Monday.

The Lady Rams controlled play throughout the contest, but found themselves trailing 1-0 early on.  In the 13th minute Texas College's only corner kick of the day found a Texas Wesleyan hand in the box.  TC's Nora Cordova converted the ensuing penalty kick.

The Lady Rams did not panic and responded by netting three goals in a 3:08 stretch.  In the 29th minute Lauren Kee played the ball in from the right wing and Alexis Michaelkovich found the net.  In the 31st minute, Michaelkovich netted her fifth goal of the season off of a corner kick from Sandy Villarreal.  Forty-four seconds later a blast from Villarreal hit the post, but Kaitlin Bush was there to knock in the rebound.

The second half was all Texas Wesleyan as the Lady Rams allowed the Steers only one shot.  In the 59th minute Michaelkovich flipped a throw from the right sideline into the box and Shrareh Asadi finished her third goal of the season.  In the 72nd minute, Bush notched her fourth goal of the season on another assist from Kee.

"It was good to get back on track after a poor performance on Saturday," commented head coach Josh Gibbs.  "I'm proud of the girls for bouncing back and getting their heads right.  Now we turn our attention to St. Gregory's and the start of Sooner Conference play."

For the game, the Lady Rams outshot the Steers 42-4 including a 21-2 count in shots on goal.  TC's Michelle De la Garza posted 16 saves in the loss, while Nikki Lockwood needed only one save to preserve the win.

The Lady Rams will return to action Friday, when they host St. Gregory's University in their Sooner Athletic Conference opener.  That game is scheduled for a 6:00 p.m. start at Martin Field.
