Rams Run Away From Knights Early

FORT WORTH, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan University men's soccer team (2-2) used a quick flurry of offense to breeze to a 4-0 win over Southwestern Adventist University (0-1) at Martin Field on Wednesday.
 
The Rams earned an early corner kick in the 4th minute, and Cody Marlow finished off a service from Mohamed Faye to break the ice.  In the 8th minute, Faye played another corner kick into the box.  A header from Marlow was blocked by the Knights defense, but Ross McArthur was there to put the rebound into the back of the net.  Just 37 seconds later, Marin Kovacevic scored to push the advantage to 3-0.
 
In the 23rd minute, Alen Pucko scored his second goal of the season off a feed from Drake Trease.
 
Head coach Tyler Powell took advantage of the early 4-0 lead and was able to work 26 players into the contest
 
The Rams kept the pressure on throughout the contest, outshooting the Knights 55-3.  SWAU's Cesar Cely made 23 saves to limit the damage to four goals.
 
The Rams took 10 corner kicks while allowing SWAU only one.  Of those 10 opportunities, nine resulted in shots, seven in shots on goal, and two ended with goals.
 
Arnold Martinez (1-0) made one save while minding the net for 73:20 for Texas Wesleyan.  Alexis Yanez worked the final 16:40 to complete the first shutout of the season.
 
The Rams will return to action next Thursday and Friday for a pair of contests at the St. Thomas Tournament.  They will play the University of St. Thomas Houston at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, and UT-Brownsville at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
