FORT WORTH, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan University women's soccer team (2-1) made it a happy birthday for Josh Gibbs, delivering the head coach's 96th career victory with a 4-0 win over Texas A&M University-Texarkana (1-1) at Martin Field on Friday.
 
The game was also the first loss in the history of the program for the Eagles who were coming off a 3-0 win over Texas College in their inaugural game.
 
The Eagles had several quality scoring chances early, but the Lady Rams dodged each bullet, while goalkeeper Nikki Lockwood came up with six saves in the first half.
 
Texarkana took the first three shots of the game including two that had to be stopped by Lockwood.  Then in the seventh minute, Alexis Michaelkovich ripped a shot that was stopped by Eagle goalkeeper Vanessa Sanchez.  However, Sanchez was unable to hold the ball and Shrareh Asadi was there to score the rebound.
 
In the 23rd minute Sandra Villarreal took a corner kick that found Michaelkovich for the second score of the game.  A goal from Kaitlin Bush in the 34th minute made it 3-0, and that score stood at halftime.
 
The second half saw the Rams do a better job of controlling the ball.  In the 53rd minute, Michaelkovich drew a foul at the top of the box.  The senior forward took the ensuing free kick and netted her second goal of the game and third of the season.
 
"We were able to finish some chances, but I was disappointed in the effort in the first half," Gibbs commented, "but we got better and got out of here with a win."
 
For the game, the Rams outshot the Eagles 19-14 including 14-7 on goal.  The Rams took advantage of five corner kicks while allowing just three.  Sanchez and Ellie Kemins combined to make 10 saves for Texarkana while Lockwood made seven stops for Texas Wesleyan.
 
The Lady Rams will return to action Friday, when they travel to Austin, TX, to take on Huston-Tillotson University.  That game is scheduled for a 6:00 p.m. start.
