WAXAHACHIE, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women's basketball team (15-6, 6-3 SAC) took a 72-57 win over Southwestern Assemblies of God University (10-11, 1-8 SAC) at the Schaeffer Center on Thursday.

The Lady Rams were down 4-0 to start the game before
Amy Easley and
Stacey Darnley knocked down a pair of three pointers to gain an 8-6 lead. The Lions went on a 6-0 run from there, capped by a Jirah Rodriguez shot from downtown to take a 12-8 advantage. A
Krissy Parker 5-point rally spurred the Rams to tie the game as Wesleyan forced the issue in the paint.

Texas Wesleyan halted the SAGU offense with a 13-3 run that started with a Darnley triple and ended with a pair of Easley free throws to take a 25-15 lead with a 6:05 left in the first half. The Rams continued to build a lead and Parker put in another jumper to make it a 41-22 game at the half.

TWU outscored their opponent in the paint 18-6 and 16-4 in bench points, while shooting 55 percent from the field. The Lady Lions managed only 22 percent from the field in the first half. Both teams struggled to hang on to the ball, committing 21 total turnovers.

It was more of the same in the second half as the Lady Rams held their big lead behind hot shooting. A
Carneisha Sims put back gave Wesleyan a 24-point 48-24 lead, their biggest of the night. The Lady Lions tried to cut into the lead, but could not stop Darnley and Easley from behind the arc.
Katelynn Threats put in jumper to keep a sizeable 68-45 lead with five minutes remaining in the game. The Lady Lions started shorten the margin, but ran out of time as the Lady Rams powered to a 72-57 win.

For the game, Wesleyan outshot the Lady Lions from the field 45 percent to 28 percent. The Rams went 9-25 for 36 percent from downtown and tallied 16 steals and 18 assists as a team. The lead changed hands five times and was tied only three. TWU led for 32:56 of game time.

Parker put up 17 points in the win. Darnley also finished with 17 points, adding five assists. Easley notched 16 points, nine rebounds and four assists. Threats tallied 12 points and eight boards in the game.

The Lady Rams will travel to Oklahoma City, OK for a conference meeting with the Oklahoma City University Stars on Saturday, January 31 starting at 3:00 pm.Â
