FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University men's soccer team (8-3-1, 2-1-1 SAC) notched a 2-1 conference win against rival Southwestern Assemblies of God University (5-7-1, 0-4 SAC) at Martin Field on Saturday.
The Rams were patient early picking out opportunities at the right time, and the right time struck in the 32nd minute as
Denis Ushakov rocketed a shot past the keeper to give Wesleyan an early 1-0 lead.
The Lions tried to answer, but were limited by timely defending and smart goalkeeping. The Rams shutout SAGU in the first half of play as the Lions were held to only four shots before the break.
The Lions came out kicking, and put the Rams on their heels to start the second half. Isai Bonilla put in the equalizer in the 52nd minute after a miscue in the back left Bonilla uncovered in the box.
That level feeling the Lions enjoyed did not last long as in the very next minute Texas Wesleyan answered big. The Rams marched the ball right down the heart of the SAGU defense and Ojouk Otieno made a jumping, mid-air cross to
Mohamed Faye who snaked a shot into goal from the back post to give the Rams a 2-1 lead.
Texas Wesleyan managed the game very well from that point, burning out the rest of the time to claim the win.
Marko Jovanavic (8-3-1) made three saves in the win, whole Ushakov picked up his sixth goal of the season. For Faye, it was his first goal of the season, and Otieno tallied his third assist in 2015.
The Rams travel to Shawnee, OK to take on St. Gregory's University on Friday, October 16 starting at 3:00 pm
