Golden Eagles Eliminate Lady Rams

SILOAM SPRINGS, AR:  The Texas Wesleyan University women's soccer team (9-7-1) suffered a 5-1 loss in a Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament Quarterfinal contest at John Brown University (12-6-1) on Saturday.
 
Aspen Robinson staked the Golden Eagles to a 2-0 lead with goals in the 12th and 16th minutes, but Lauren Marquez scored in the 24th minute with assists to Kaitlin Bush and Theresa Garsztecki to send the Rams to the break trailing by just one.
 
JBU's Sara Lachance put the game away with three straight goals in the second half.  Lachance scored in the 57th, 58th, and 66th minutes to push the score to 5-1.
 
For the game, JBU outshot Texas Wesleyan 28-11 (12-6 on goal).  Nikki Lockwood (9-6-1) made 7 saves for the Rams while Hannah Poor made 5 stops for John Brown.
 
With the win, JBU advances to next week's SAC semifinals.  The loss ends Texas Wesleyan's season at 9-7-1, marking the program's 11th consecutive season over .500
 
The future is bright for the Texas Wesleyan program.  In Saturday's contest the starting lineup featured eight underclassmen including three freshman.  While the program will miss seniors Shareh Asadi, Kaitlin Bush, and Sabina Obidinski, who combined for 48 points (17 goals, 14 assists), The team is in line to return its goalkeeper (Nikki Lockwood), leading scorer (Theresa Garsztecki) and entire back line.
 
Ramblings
 
- At 9-8-1, the Rams did break a streak of 7 consecutive seasons with double-figures in wins.
 
- Head coach Josh Gibbs pushed his career win total to 114 this season.
 
- In her first season, Theresa Garsztecki led the Rams and currently ranks third in the SAC with 14 goals.  Her 32 points are the sixth highest single season total in program history.
 
- Nikki Lockwood finished her junior campaign with 31 career wins and 18 shutouts, both school records.
