Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Lady Rams Cruise Past Cavs

NOTE: Texas Wesleyan has forfeited this game.

FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women's basketball team (17-8, 8-5 SAC) ran to a 73-49 win over St. Gregory's University (3-19, 2-11 SAC) at the Sid Richardson Center on Thursday night.

The Lady Rams shot 45 percent in a game in which they never trailed. Texas Wesleyan played at a steady pace for the entire contest and took an edge in nearly every statistical category on the way to dominant win.

The Cavs had a hard go of it from downbeat, finally registering a field goal three minutes into the game to make it 7-4. Amy Easley found the bottom of the net from long range before Stacy Lee cut the lead to 14-11 with an off the glass layup. A Stacy Darnley triple sparked an 8-0 rally to gain a 22-11 lead midway through the first half.

A Danielle Butler layup gave St. Gregory's 18 points at the 5:40 mark, but those points would be the last of the half for SGU. Texas Wesleyan played very stingy defense and was patient on the other end, passing the ball well. Onyesonam Nolisa got a jumper to go to make it a 36-18 advantage heading into halftime.

While the Rams did not shoot well from behind the arc at 18 percent, they made up for it by outscoring the Cavs 18-6 in the paint and 11-0 in fast breaks points. The Cavs shot only 19 percent from the field in the first half.

Wesleyan continued their run into the second half, and capped the 12-0 rally on a Katelynn Threats three point play to take a 41-18 lead. A Nolisa layup gave the Rams their biggest lead of the night at 59-32 with 10:38 left in the contest. Texas Wesleyan cruised the rest of the way, taking a 73-49 home win.

The Rams won the rebound battle 50-40, and tallied 22 assists as a team. Threats posted a double-double with 25 points and 10 boards. Nolisa notched 15 points and nine rebounds. 12 Lady Rams tallied points in the win.

The Lady Rams will travel to Siloam Springs, AR for a meeting with John Brown University on Saturday, February 14. Game time is scheduled for a 1:00 pm start.
