MANSFIELD, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University softball team (5-4) picked up a 9-4 victory over UT-Permain Basin (4-11) before dropping Baker University (1-6) 7-2 in day two of the Mansfield North Texas Softball Bash at James McKnight Park on Saturday.

The Lady Rams started the day with UT-Permian Basin and got on the board in the top of the first.
Kendall Kizer beat out a two out infield single to the shortstop before a passed ball moved the runner into scoring position.
Chelsea Anderson put the ball in play and reached on an errant throw which in turn allowed Kizer to score to take an early 1-0 lead.

Texas Wesleyan tacked on two more runs in the second, starting with an
Amber Marlett lead off blast over the center field fence. Â Â
Amber Tucker would plate another later in the inning on a double that beat the left fielder for a 3-0 lead.

The Falcons got one back in the bottom of the second after back-to-back singles to start the inning led to a first and third situation with no outs. The Falcons successfully pulled off a double steal play score their first run, but the Rams shut the door after that to keep a 3-1 advantage.

Marlett started the top of the fifth inning with a rocket past third base for single.
Demi Dotson entered the game to run and
Haley Neill moved her over with a groundout to shortstop.
Lauren Davis delivered a two out base hit to center field that scored Dotson from second to make it a 4-1 game.

The Flacons posted a run in the bottom half of the inning on some crafty base running. Taylor Clancy took two bases on an Adrianna Berzoza sacrifice bunt to set up one out with a runner on third. Niki DiSera hit a RBI sacrifice fly to center to make it a 4-2 ball game.

The Rams did one better in the sixth with an Anderson two out RBI base knock to left field.
Lauren Gunter followed that up with a RBI double to right center

UTPB matched that in the bottom of the inning with a pair of runs to cut the lead to 6-4, but the Falcon defense could not keep the Lady Rams off the base paths. Wesleyan loaded the bases in the seventh and
Amber Tucker tallied a RBI walk. The Rams scored on an everybody safe fielder's choice play and another on a wild pitch before Permian Basin could get out of the inning in a 9-4 hole.

Amanda Windham (1-1) struck out the side to finish the game for the Lady Rams, taking 9-4 win. Windham tossed all seven innings in the win. She gave up four runs on five hits, walked one and sat down eight. Tucker went 2 for 3 with two RBI. Davis went 2 for 4 with a RBI as six Lady Rams drove in a run.

Texas Wesleyan faced Baker University in second game and the two teams played three scoreless innings before the Rams broke the silence.

TWU got three consecutive hits to start the fourth, culminating in an Anderson double down the left field line to drive in two runs. Davis earned a RBI walk later in the inning, before
Aizia Azarcon hit a RBI groundout for a run.
Kayla Prachyl blooped a bases loaded, two out single to shallow left-center to plate two more to end the rally and take a commanding 6-0 lead.

The Wildcats got on the board in the bottom half of the inning after two Lady Ram errors to lead off the inning spurred a Baker rally. Kaitlin Saunders a two RBI single to cut into the lead. The Rams buttoned up the defense and got out of a dangerous inning still leading by a 6-2 margin.

Texas Wesleyan added an insurance run in the fifth. After Kizer reached base on a throwing error by the shortstop, Gunter ripped one down the right field line for a RBI single to make it a 7-2 game.

The Lady Rams handled the Wildcats from there to take the game 7-2. Marlett (3-2) earned the win. She battled for 3.2 innings of scoreless relief work, gave up only two hits, walked three, and struck out seven.

Prachyl and Anderson each went 1 for 4 with a pair of RBI. Gunter had a 3 for 3 performance with one RBI in the win.

In a scheduling change, the Lady Rams will play only one game on Sunday, taking on Clarke University at 11:00 a.m.
