Lady Rams Honor Seniors

FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University softball team (16-26, 8-18 SAC) let an 8-2 game get away before just missing a comeback in a 5-3 game two against the University of Science and Arts (OK) (38-7, 21-3 SAC) at Sycamore Park on Sunday.

The Lady Rams jumped on top of the Drovers in game one with a two first inning. Amber Tucker started the action with a rip single up the middle. Amber Marlett moved the lead runner to third in the next at bat with double sliced down the left field line. Lauren Gunter finished the job out of the clean-up spot with a line drive two RBI double off the left field fence to give Wesleyan an 2-0 lead.

The Drovers got a run back in the top of the third. After loading the bases full with some great small ball, the Rams traded a run for an out on a Tate Landmark sacrifice fly out in foul territory to left field. That made it a 2-1 Wesleyan lead.

The Drovers did the same in the sixth inning loading the bases with small ball. USAO beat out a couple of infield singles before Kayla Adams ripped a shot back up the middle to plate two and take a 3-2 lead. The Drovers added two more runs on a pair of sacrifice hits to extend the lead. Another misplayed grounder with two outs gave the Drover a 6-2 lead after five and a half.

Science and Arts made it an 8-2 cushion after a posting a pair of runs in the top of the seventh after a

The Lady Rams got two on with no outs in the bottom of the seventh and a Lauren Davis sacrifice fly got one across, but the Wesleyan would fall 8-3.

Gunter went 1 for 3 with a RBI. Anderson went 1 for 1 with two walks.

In game two, the Drovers scored five runs before the Lady Rams could get on the board, again playing small ball while liming the Wesleyan offense.

Texas Wesleyan finally got to USAO ace Summer Leitka, who won game number 26 on the season throwing over 200 pitches in 12 innings of work in the double header.  The Rams drew two walks to start the fifth inning before Kayla Prachyl singled to left field to load the bases. Marlett knocked a base hit to through the left side to make it a 5-1 game. Gunter followed that with a two RBI double to center field to cut the lead to 5-3.

The Drovers held off the Lady Rams to secure the 5-3 win. Gunter went 1 for 4 with a couple RBI. Marlett went 3 for 4 with a RBI in the home finale. Davis went 1 for 2 with a walk.

The Lady Rams will graduate three outstanding seniors. The Texas Wesleyan University athletics will miss the contributions of Amber Marlett, Chelsea Anderson, and Kendall Kizer and wish them well in their future endeavors.

The Lady Rams sit in the sixth seed in conference play and will wait for seeding from the Sooner Conference.
