Rams Tame Tigers, 93-55

DALLAS, TX:  The 13th ranked Texas Wesleyan University men's basketball team (11-4) breezed to a 93-55 win at Paul Quinn College (1-15) on Monday.
 
In the first half, head coach Brennen Shingleton nearly split the minutes perfectly between 10 players.  Meanwhile Paul Quinn was limited to only six players for the game.
 
The Rams shot a blistering 57.9% from the field in the first half while holding the Tigers to 27%.  An 11-2 run to close the period left the Rams in command at 50-25 through the first half.
 
Dion Rogers started the second half with a triple and the Tigers never got any closer.  The lead swelled to as many as 39 points (71-32) as the Rams cruised to the 93-55 victory.
 
For the game, the Rams shot 55.6% from the field and 42.9% from long range (9-for-21) while limiting Paul Quinn to 29% from the floor and 27% from distance.
 
Sam Akano led all scorers with 24 points to go with 15 rebounds and five assists.  BJ Batts and Jerell Ellis each scored 15 points, and Dion Rogers added 12 points.  Shaun Rost pulled down 10 rebounds to help the Rams outrebound the Tigers 53-36.
 
Sir Patrick Reynolds led the Tigers with 19 points while Davyon Collins finished with 13.  Jesse Williams contributed a double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds.
 
Texas Wesleyan led 56-28 in points in the paint, 21-8 in points off of turnovers, 24-8 on the fast break, and 56-2 in bench scoring.
 
The Rams will return to Sooner Athletic Conference play on Thursday, when they travel to Muskogee, OK, to take on Bacone College.  That game is scheduled for an 8:00 p.m. start.
 
Ramblings
 
- With the win the Rams swept the season series with Paul Quinn (the Rams took an 88-70 win over the Tigers in Fort Worth in November).  Texas Wesleyan 16 straight against Paul Quinn to lead the all-time series 26-7.
 
- The Rams lead the all-time series with Bacone 17-8 and have won 6 in a row against the Warriors.
 
- Texas Wesleyan set season highs with 40 field goals made, a .556 field goal percentage, 30 assists, and 10 blocked shots.
