Lady Rams Stifle Drovers

CHICKASHA, OK: The Texas Wesleyan University volleyball team (22-3, 9-3 SAC) added another win in straight sets (25-19, 25-18, 25-18) over the University of Science & Arts (2-12, 2-10 SAC) at Drover Fieldhouse on Thursday.

Texas Wesleyan spread the ball around nicely to start the match, as four different players scored at least one point early on. Brianna Jaramillo capped a 5-1 run to gain a 14-9 advantage. The Drovers couldn't overcome the errors as Jaramillo and Shaylee Griffin knocked down a block on the way to a 25-19 win.

Kayla Hayes fooled the Drover defense with a service ace on the way to a Lady Ram 7-3 lead to start the second. Alanna Hayhurst tacked on three consecutive kills to push the game to 14-8. Jaramillo and the Rams put the second set to bed with a 25-18 win.

Ariel Emory connected on two kills to keep Wesleyan from falling too far behind to start the third set. The Drovers enjoyed their biggest lead of the match at 7-3 after a Dana Stepankova spike. USAO committed too many errors though, making way for the Lady Rams to grab a 13-10 lead after Shelby Stinnett went back-to-back with an ace and a kill. Shaylee Griffin gave TXWES a 23-14 lead on a kill before USAO committed two more errors to give the Rams a 25-18, 3-0 win.

Jaramillo led the attack on 10 kills, hitting .304 with three block assists. Sasha Robinson earned her 17th and fifth consecutive double-double behind 18 assists and 10 digs. Emory and Stinnett each added five kill in the win.

The Lady Rams come home for an important conference match versus Oklahoma City University. The match will be the prequel to the Midnight Madness basketball event on Saturday, October 15 starting at 1:00 pm.
