FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women's soccer team (9-4-1, 6-0-1 SAC) picked up a Sooner Athletic Conference win and extended their unbeaten streak to 10-games with a 3-0 victory over Oklahoma City University (5-9, 3-4 SAC) at Martin Field on Saturday.
The Rams celebrated their four seniors prior to the start of the game.
Kailene Allis,
Theresa Garsztecki,
Kaylie Hart, and
Nikki Lockwood were all playing in their final regular season home game. Allis made the most of her night with a pair of goals.
"Those four have meant so much to this program and to me personally," said head coach
Josh Gibbs. "I think each of them has made me a better coach, and I'm incredibly grateful for what they have brought to the University and the program."
The Rams threatened to score almost immediately. Forty-eight seconds into the game,
Drea Molina played a corner kick that found Allis in the box, but her shot narrowly missed high.
In the 33rd minute, Allis ripped a shot that rebounded off of OCU keeper Kirsten Thomas, but the senior stayed with the play and finished her fifth goal of the season.
The game might have taken a turn for the worst after OCU's Jeanene Smith ran over Lockwood during a melee in the box. Smith was shown a caution, and Lockwood came out of the game.
The Rams' defense allowed only one OCU shot in the half, and
Lauren Bond faced only two more in the second half in relief of Lockwood.
In the 49th minute,
Taylor Ross played a cross from the near right wing, and
Drea Molina allowed Lockwood to rest easy on the bench when she knocked in her 11th strike of the season.
In the 76th minute, Allis put the game away with her second goal of the day off an assist from Ross.
For the game, the Rams outshot the Stars 15-3 and led 10-1 in corner kicks. Thomas made three saves, while Lockwood (8-2-1) and Bond did not face a shot on goal.
The Rams will return to action on Thursday, when they travel to Siloam Springs, AR, to take on John Brown University. The winner of that game will be in the driver's seat for the Sooner Athletic Conference Regular Season Championship. The 19th ranked Golden Eagles are currently 7-0 in conference play. If the Rams win that game and then defeat Bacone in their regular season finale, they would take the title. Any other result would give the championship to John Brown.
