Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

No. 8 Rams top Warriors 78-62

FORT WORTH, TX:  The 8th ranked Texas Wesleyan University men's basketball team (21-4, 12-2 SAC) took a 78-62 win over Bacone College (2-23, 1-13 SAC) at the Sid Richardson Center on Saturday.

Texas Wesleyan ripped off 11 unanswered points to start the game and never trailed in the contest.  The Warriors did close the half on a 10-4 run and trailed by only six, 33-27, at the midway point.  In spite of the hot start, the Rams posted their second lowest home court scoring output in a first half this season.

The Rams never allowed Bacone to mount a serious threat in the second half.  A three from Dion Rogers capped a 9-2 run that pushed the margin to 15 points (61-46) midway through the second half.  The Rams went on to lead by as many as 20 (74-54) on their way to the 78-62 win.

The Rams struggled from long range, hitting just 2-of-15 (13%), but they made up for it by outshooting Bacone 49% - 35% from the floor.  They also made 10-of-12 (83%) free throws.  The Rams held a 41-36 rebounding margin and forced 21 turnovers.  Those turnovers led to a 22-13 margin in points off of turnovers and a 23-6 advantage in fast break points.

Five Rams reached double-figures in scoring.  Trevon Jeffery led the way with 13 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists.  Sam Akano added 12 points.  Chris Gracela and BJ Batts each scored 11 points, and Dion Rogers finished with 10.  Jerell Ellis and Henry Buckley each contributed nine points to the win.

Bacone was led by Geo Brewer's 15 points.  Corey Swift and Jordan Menzies-Taylor posted 11 points apiece.

The Rams will return to action on Thursday when they host St. Gregory's University.  That game is scheduled for an 8:00 p.m. start in the Sid Richardson Center.
