Rams Top McMurry 7-4

GRAND PRAIRIE, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (7-4) took a 7-4 win over McMurry University (2-3) at The Ballpark in Grand Prairie on Tuesday.

The game was the sixth in the last four days for Texas Wesleyan.  The Rams went 4-2 during that stretch.

Casey Moses and Erick Quesada keyed the offensive effort for the Rams, combining to go 6-for-8 with 2 doubles, a home run, five RBI, and three runs scored.

Jonathan Bravo drew a leadoff walk in the bottom of the first and Moses followed with a double.  Quesada then scored both runners with a single.  An RBI single from Moses in the second made it 3-0.

The Warhawks got a leadoff triple from Kevin Garza in the third, and he then scored on a groundout from Chase Bledsoe.  An RBI double from Ty Kirk in the fourth cut the score to 3-2.

In the fifth inning, Moses touched off the first Texas Wesleyan homer of the season.  A line-drive solo shot to leftfield.

Patrick Adams singled and scored for McMurry in the sixth, and the Warhawks got the tying run to third base before Ryan Chen came out of the Texas Wesleyan bullpen and got out of the inning with a strikeout.

An RBI double from Lorenzo Lynch in the seventh followed by a two-run eighth that included an RBI knock from Quesada put the game out of reach at 7-3.  The Warhawks did get a run in the ninth to account for the 7-4 final score.

Moses finished 3-for-3 at the plate and was a triple short of the cycle.  He had two RBI and three runs scored to go with his single, double, home run, sac bunt, and walk.  Quesada was 3-for-5 with three RBI and a stolen base.

Alex Lopez (2-0) allowed three runs on six hits in 5.2 innings of work.  Chen worked 3.1 innings to record his first save.  He allowed an unearned run on two hits and a walk while striking out six.

John Eric Cortez (0-2) took the loss after allowing four runs on six hits in 5 innings pitched.

The Rams will return to action with a three-game series against Oklahoma Wesleyan Friday and Saturday.  Friday's doubleheader is scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. start at The Ballpark in Grand Prairie.
