Rams Sweep Away Warriors with 8-7 Win

GRAND PRAIRIE, TX:  The Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (18-14, 8-4 SAC) took an 8-7 win over Bacone College (2-21, 1-11 SAC) on Saturday to earn a Sooner Athletic Conference series sweep over the Warriors.

Bacone made the Rams work for it in the finale of the three-game set.  Both teams plated an unearned run in the first inning.  Bacone got a bases-clearing triple from Manny Mendez as part of a four-run third inning.  An RBI single from Dario Gonzalez pushed the advantage to 6-1 in the fourth inning.

The Rams finally got something started in the fifth inning.  Singles from Alex Gudac, Casey Moses, Erick Quesada, and Jonathan Bravo turned into three runs

Two innings later, Dusteyn Suttle produced a pinch-hit two-out RBI single to make it 6-5.  A triple from Ryan Adam knotted the score at 6-6, and Gudac singled through the left side to give Texas Wesleyan its first lead of the game.

The Warriors loaded the bases with one out in the top of the eighth and tied the game on a wild pitch before Wade Regas could work out of the jam.

In the bottom of the ninth, Jake Davis drew a one-out walk, advanced to second on a wild pitch, and scored the winning run on a Bacone throwing error.

Regas (4-5) picked up the win with 1.2 scoreless innings of relief.  He walked none and struck out three.  Emmanuel Arnaud (0-2) took the loss after allowing four runs (three earned) on four hits and three walks in four innings pitched.

Bacone out hit the Rams 11-10, but Warrior pitching handed out eight walks.  The Rams stranded 11 runners, while the Warriors left 9 men one.

Gudac was 3-for-4 in the win, while Moses went 2-for-4.

The Rams return to action on Tuesday, when they host LSU-Alexandria at Sycamore Park in Fort Worth.  That doubleheader is scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. start.
