FORT WORTH, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University women's soccer team (1-0) made it a happy Opening Day at Martin Field with a 6-1 victory over Dallas Christian College (0-1) on Saturday.
The Crusaders caught an early break and scored just 1:46 into the contest; however, the Rams regrouped and allowed DCC only seven more shots in the game.
Texas Wesleyan simply dominated the remainder of the game.
Kaylie Hart took a pass from
Samantha Moore in the 30th minute that settled 25 yards out at the top of the box, and she drilled the Lady Rams' first goal of the season. Three minutes later freshman
Taylor Ross struck a cross from the right wing to the back post and
Kailene Allis gave the Rams the lead.
The Rams went to the intermission with a 2-1 lead having outshot DCC 21-5 in the first half.
Allis got the scoring started in the second half when Theresa Garstecki played the ball ahead in the 56th minute. Garstecki did the same for Ross who beat a defender in the box and scored her first collegiate goal in the 81st minute.
Two minutes later, a corner kick from
Drea Molina resulted in a goal from
Katie Baugh. Garstecki capped the scoring at 6-1 with an assist from Allis in the 89th minute.
"It was nice to see a variety of goal scorers and get a lot of people involved," commented head coach
Josh Gibbs. "We had a lot of opportunities and didn't finish as well as we would like, but this was a much improved Dallas Christian team. Now we will get ready for our next test against UT-Dallas."
For the game, the Rams got off a whopping 44 shots while holding the Crusaders to just 8. Texas Wesleyan also led 9-1 in corner kicks.
The Lady Rams' next home game is scheduled for Thursday, September 1, at 7:00 p.m. when they host UT-Dallas at Martin Field.
