UTD Game Canceled: Lady Rams Look Ahead to Northwestern State

FORT WORTH, TX:  Tonight's women's soccer game between Texas Wesleyan University and UT-Dallas has been cancelled due to poor field conditions.

Rain in the area with more in the forecast for this evening caused the poor conditions and prompted the decision to cancel.

The Lady Rams will return to action on Sunday, September 4, when they take on NCAA Division I Northwestern State University (LA) out of the Southland Conference.

That game will be a special one for Texas Wesleyan Head Coach Josh Gibbs as student challenges teacher for the first time in his coaching career.  The Lady Demons are coached by George Van Linder who gave Gibbs his start in coaching while at Baylor University.  "I owe everything to George," Gibbs said.  "He took a chance on me straight out of college and threw me right in the mix.  I was in charge of goalkeepers from day one.  That trust meant a lot."

Van Linder, who has 15 years of head coaching experience including directing Oklahoma to their first Big 12 Championship as well as coaching Baylor from 2003-2007, expressed his thoughts on playing a former protégé, "I of course want to win, but at the same time, I would hate to see them lose.  We speak about tactics all the time.  It will be hard not to over think about what they will try to do versus us, and what we should do against them.  It's maybe like to brothers battling, and I would expect he will have some sort of surprise waiting for us."

The Lady Rams are 1-0 on the season after opening with a 6-1 win over Dallas Christian College at Martin Field on Saturday.  The Lady Demons meanwhile are 1-2 after a 2-0 win over UALR followed by losses at Ole Miss and at SMU.
